Day 68 – Arriving in Broome

We left rest area and the cows fairly early and finished the last bit of the drive to Broome, keen for a swim and a much needed wash. We headed straight for Cable Beach in Broome, and the water was an awesome tropical temperature and beautifully blue, but there was heaps of sea lice and lots of blobby jellyfish (not the poisonous ones!) and it was very low tide, so it was a pretty short lived swim and we opted for showers at the toilet block on the beach instead.

Caitlin was in town seeing a friend and she met us down at the beach! We had a good catch up with her before going to see her friend Mumma Lucy and Gabo and Tarsh at their place up the road. Gabo’s brother had brought a couple of camp pups back from one of the communities recently that they were looking after and potentially keeping – they were so cute but so had many ticks and fleas! Smash picked them all off Buster. Then we headed in to town to have a drive around and met the Jack, Ray and Shane at Mangroves Resort for Jack’s birthday drinks.

It was a lovely spot with excellent views over Roebuck Bay and a big open area looking over the beach with tables and chairs and couches and pool and bar… not a bad place to spend the afternoon! We needed to fix one of our headlamps so we found a place down the road that changed it out for us quickly and cheaply which was great, and then drove to a caravan park with the guys to settle in for the night to get some rest for tackling the road up Cape Leveque with the gang tomorrow!
