Day 61 – Lake Argyle

We ventured out of Kununurra today (after a smoothie, naturally) to drive out to Lake Argyle, a large dammed reservoir with a resort and cruises and such.

There was an insane amount of water (13 times the size of Darling Harbour, from memory) and the red cliffs were striking against the surface of the lake, but there wasn’t much access to the water asides from the cruise boats coming and going, and not much shade to take refuge from the heat of the day in.

We had some lunch down at the picnic area at the foot of the dam wall, but the river’s edge had been fenced off (crocodiles? Water currents? Private land?) so we went back up to the resort/caravan park for a cold drink and snuck in to their famous infinity pool, which was a welcome relief from the heat. And the views were awesome!

But other than that, there wasn’t too much else to see at Lake Argyle and we didn’t feel like doing the boat cruise… So, back to Kunners for the evening!

We went down to a local restaurant/bar on Lake Kununurra called The Pumphouse which had expensive food but good drinks, so watched the sunset with a couple of g&ts and croc spotted with a few other folks enjoying the cool change of the evening.

A really great spot and glad we stopped in – I’m sure the food is nice too, but we had other plans of tabouleh and bread at the caravan park and possibly more mango thievery.
